Dermal fillers have been used for over 20 years by dermatologists. These facial fillers can be used to soften smile lines, marionette lines, lip lines and to improve facial contour. Fillers can also be used to enhance the lips and soften dark circles around the eyes. The first dermal fillers in the marketplace were collagens, but we now have a variety of products to choose from. Here’s a list of what is available.
Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast are human forms of collagen. Because they are human collagens, no skin testing is necessary. These are tried and true filler that lasts 4-6 months.
Juvéderm® Injectable Gel, Restylane® and Perlane® are hyaluronic acid based gel fillers. Since hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural component of skin there is no skin testing necessary with these fillers. HA fillers are great for laugh lines, marionette lines and for enhancing the lips. HA fillers last 6-12 months depending on how much filler is injected and where they are used. These are by far the most popular fillers in the marketplace today.
Radiesse® and Sculptura™ are collagen boosting fillers. These fillers have tiny particles in them that stimulate collagen production in the skin. Collagen boosting fillers are great for laugh lines and for contouring the face. Because of the way they work, it may take several months to see their full effects. These fillers last longer than collagen or HA fillers, and can last twelve to eighteen
